Last year saw the unveiling of two Nexus phones for the first time – the Nexus 6P by Huawei and the Nexus 5X by LG. The Nexus 6P was dubbed as one of the best smartphones of 2015 by many and due to the overwhelming reception of the 2013 Nexus 5, Google decided to re-collab with LG to produce a successor to it. Both phones are impressive in their own leagues – the flagship and mid-range spectrums respectively.
While many are still living in the hype of these Nexus devices, HTC is rumored to be working with Google on two Nexus devices set to be launched later this year. Evan Blass, famous leak and rumor source has tweeted that the phones are internally dubbed as the M1 and S1, which is reasonable since a “Nexus 7” or “7P” might cause confusion between the Nexus 7 tablet. Both devices are said to be running Android N out of the box.
The folks at Android Police made further claims that the M1 and S1 carry codenames of Marlin and Sailfish respectively, which is entirely logical as well given the history of sea creature names as codenames for the past Nexus devices, such as Angler as the codename for the Nexus 6P. If we were to follow the usual Nexus device cycle, both Marlin and Sailfish will have to wait till September to be unveiled. It seems like HTC is taking the whole Nexus cake this year since it last produced the Nexus 9 tablet for Google. What do you think about these rumors so far?
