HTC U 11 the new champion in DxOMark

The HTC U 11 seemed like a less waste of space than the HTC U Ultra when it was unveiled today. The latter was deemed by many as a poorly designed phone from certain aspects, leaving a lot to be desired. But it seems like the HTC U 11 is on the road to redemption for the Taiwanese company, plus its camera is probably the best, if not one of the best out there right now.

Why the above statement? The HTC U 11 has officially dethroned the Google Pixel on DxOMark, the popular benchmarking site for smartphone cameras. The former device delivered an impressive score of 90, only edging the Pixel’s score of 89. This makes the HTC U 11’s camera package the best ever according to DxOMark, even when comparing it to the likes of the iPhone 7/7 Plus and the Galaxy S8 series.

The HTC U 11 particularly edged the rest of the competition when it comes to low light pictures. The camera’s dual pixel PDAF technology, coupled with the larger than usual 1 / 2.55-inch sensor and OIS contributed to the minimizing of noise in pictures.

The phone camera’s autofocus abilities are said to be the best in any mobile device, claimed to be the most accurate as well. The U 11 managed to score the highest when it came to video performance against the competition, including the HTC 10.

It looks like HTC has managed to nail it in the camera department for the U 11 flagship, but will it be enough to bring HTC back into the mainstream? What do you think?
