HTC spins off the Vive VR into a separate subsidiary

The phrase ‘better safe than sorry’ can be applied to HTC’s move as The Verge reports that HTC has spun off its Vive VR business into a seperate subsidiary that is wholly-owned by HTC.

Called HTC Vive Corporation, HTC has stated that this company will be the company’s vehicle for developing strategic alliances to help build the global VR ecosystem. HTC’s decision to spin-off its Vive business may also be motivated by the company’s lack of success in the smartphone market. As many of you may know, HTC hasn’t exactly been performing well in the smartphone market, so the decision to spin-off the Vive into a seperate subsidiary of its own would help protect the device from the fallout of HTC’s other divisions.

Simply put, HTC believes that the Vive will be the next big thing for the company and is looking to protect it should the company’s other divisions fail.
