Hopes of Marshmallow for the OnePlus One revived

Apart from unofficial CyanogenMod releases and nightly builds, there hasn’t been any official release of a Marshmallow-ran Cyanogen OS or OxygenOS for the OnePlus One. Late last year, OnePlus One users were promised a Marshmallow update some time in the first quarter of this year, but are still left empty handed. This isn’t the first time OnePlus has delayed an update, so it isn’t surprising after all. However, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has claimed that the Marshmallow update for the One will be arriving soon.

According to Pei’s Twitter post, Android Marshmallow for the OnePlus One is in the final testing stage. He further stated that he couldn’t provide a specific date or an estimated time frame for the update because it “depends on other parties”, but should be very soon. “Other parties” might imply CyanogenMod, and it that’s true, OnePlus might be waiting on CyanogenMod to have both OxygenOS and Cyanogen OS updates to be rolled out simultaneously.

Unlike the OnePlus Two, users of the OnePlus One don’t have the liberty to join a Marshmallow beta testing. Also, it won’t be a surprise if CyanogenMod is the culprit behind the Marshmallow delay since the company has already parted ways with OnePlus due to the Chinese OEM’s dispute with Indian manufacturer MicroMax, leading to the birth of OnePlus’ own OxygenOS. Carl Pei seems to be playing safe this time, instead of making another empty promise to OnePlus One users. What are your thoughts?
