HONOR Hunter V700 gaming laptop launched: 16.1″ 144Hz display and RTX 2060

Being more well-known for their smartphones, HONOR does a surprisingly decent job at making laptops as well – the HONOR MagicBook series comprise of well-rounded daily-driver devices that are also affordable.

It looks like HONOR wants to replicate its success with the MagicBook with its first gaming laptop lineup. Dubbed the Hunter V700, the device moves away from the mundane aesthetics of the MagicBook and replaces it with an edgier look with RGB lights surrounding the laptop.

The laptop is all black and boasts a new logo, which resembles a silhouette of the a TIE Fighter aircraft. It’s also got narrow hinges making room for what looks like its rear exhaust vents. The RGB lighting mentioned earlier encompass the bottom back of the laptop, taking a cue from the likes of the ROG Strix SCAR 15 and the MSI GE66 Raider. RGB is also found on the logo as well as the keyboard.

The laptop is a massive 16.1-inch beast with an IPS LCD 144Hz display. It pushes a resolution of 1920x1080p and supports 100% sRGB colour space.

Under the hood is a set of upper-midrange hardware which includes either an Intel Core i5-10300H or Core i7-10750H, alongside an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti or an RTX 2060 GPU. There’s a respectable 16GB of DDR4 RAM and even up to 1TB of storage by way of an PCIe NVMe SSD.

When it comes to thermal management, the Hunter V700 packs what HONOR calls a Wind Valley design – the bottom panel opens up a little and lifts the laptop up at an angle; the opening allows more air to flow through its internals, thus improving airflow. We suspect ASUS might want to have a word with HONOR when they see this.

In terms of I/O ports, there are 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 USB 3.2 Type-C with DP 1.2 support, 1 HDMI 2.0 port, 1 ethernet port, and one headphone jack.

The HONOR Hunter V700 is priced at CNY7,499 (RM4,573) for the Core i5+GTX1660 Ti model, while the Core i7+RTX 2060 version is priced at CNY8,499 (RM5,183); bump the storage up to 1TB for the latter and it’ll cost CNY9,999 (RM6,097). The laptop is currently only available in its native China, but if it arrives in the country, we’ll be sure to give you the deets.
