HMD Global releases 3GB RAM variant of Nokia 5

HMD Global debuted the Nokia 5 a couple of months back, and the phone is now part of the company’s affordable range of Nokia smartphones. After having managed to revive Nokia, HMD Global, which recently unveiled the Nokia 7, has introduced a new variant of the existing Nokia 5 with extra memory.

The Nokia 5 is now available with 3GB of RAM, that is 1GB extra RAM compared to the regular variant of the handset. Ajey Mehta, HMD Global’s India Country Head states, “Nokia 5 has already forged a reputation for being a beautifully crafted phone which punches well above its weight. Now we have added more memory so fans can get enhanced performance in the same precision engineered design.”

We do know for a fact that extra RAM does make a difference on Android smartphones especially when having apps running in the background. Flagships like the OnePlus 5 have proven to be able to run more apps in the background compared to the likes of the Galaxy S8 with 4GB of RAM. Theoretically, the 3GB RAM Nokia 5 can have up to 50 percent more apps running in the background compared to the 2GB variant.

The 3GB RAM variant of the Nokia 5 will remain an India exclusive device for the time being. It will probably cost a little more than the RM799 price tag of the regular Nokia 5 here in Malaysia if it were to be made available here. That sounds like a good buy for a smartphone that has been promised Android P.
