Hissing noises reported on some iPhone 7 devices under heavy load

Mere days after the iPhone 7 was released in certain countries, some iPhone 7 owners are reporting that their brand new smartphones are generating an odd hissing noise when the phones are under heavy load.

First found by 521 Pixels’ Stephen Hackett, this particular hissing noise appears to happen to some (not all) iPhone 7 devices when the phone is under heavy load. While Apple has not issue a statement as to why this is happening, some users speculate that this sound is coming from some form of “coil whine” or other electromagnetic effects. That said, while it is troubling that the iPhone 7 is generating this noise, performance of the device doesn’t seem to be affected in any way, shape or form.

Again, Apple has yet to issue a statement regarding this issue, so it remains to be seen if Apple would be pulling a Samsung and offer to exchange these hissing iPhone 7s for a non-defective one. On the bright side, at least there aren’t reports of exploding iPhone 7s yet.
