High Sierra public beta is live and here’s how to get it

If you are looking to give the rather interesting naming OS from Apple, High Sierra a try, you can download the public beta of the new OS now. Do note, that with any software that is still in beta it will be riddled with bugs and problems, so be very sure you want to do this. Now that you have given it some though, let’s get into what can you expect with this update.

The first and most interesting update is the new file system format, APFS which will replace the previous HFS+ format, there is an option for you to maintain the file format in previous betas but your drive will be changed to the new format. If you are worried about your files and folders, then you can easily plug in a new drive and instal the beta there. Other than that, you will get to try out the Metal 2 graphics API, which will support VR and external GPUs as well as a new HEVC and HEIF video and image format.

To take part in this beta testing head over to the Apple Beta Software Program, sign up as a member and enrol your device for the update, then download the “MacOS Public Beta Access Utility”. Once you have the program, run it and it will open the App Store to download the beta, if it does not work, head back to the website and click on “View the MacOS public beta in the Mac App Store”. We will be updating our iMac to High Sierra so join us in testing the new macOS!
