Hackers use CCleaner as a backdoor into computers

If you are a user of CCleaner, it is highly advisable you ensure that your software is up-to-date as Piriform, the creators of the cleaner software has taken out a statement that hackers are using the software as a backdoor to access information on your computer.

Users who are using CCleaner 5.33, the update that came out between August 15 and September 12 and CCleaner Cloud 1.07 launched on August 24 might already be affected and should update their software immediately. The statement from the company also mentioned that the only data that was transmitted to the hacker’s servers are non-sensitive data like computer name, IP address, list of installed software, active software and list of network adaptors. They also added that there are no indicators that any other data has been sent over to the hacker’s server which is located in the US.

IF your version of CCleaner is not 5.34, please update the application and download it directly from their website rather than third-party websites to ensure you are getting the correct and secured version.
