Grab to implement facial recognition verification system this July, requiring riders to take selfies of themselves

To boost safety measures for both rider and driver, Grab will soon require riders to take selfies as a form of verification if they want to continue using the ride-hailing app.

Grab says that they are implementing this new facial-recognition verification system is a one-time process and the riders’ pictures will not be shared with the drivers, but will instead be kept private. This new system is put in place in accordance to requirements set by the Transport Ministry.

The implementation of the system will happen on July 12, and will be pushed to riders in stages. Once prompted, you will have to snap a selfie of yourself and you should be good to go.
