Apple won’t be standing alone in its case against the FBI as Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter will be providing legal support in the ongoing encryption case.

Yesterday, Microsoft’s president Brad Smith said that they will be “wholeheartedly” siding with Apple in its legal battle with the FBI. Smith further states that Microsoft will be filing its own amicus brief next week at a congressional hearing on the laws governing data transfers across borders, and government requests for that information.

“We do not believe that courts should seek to resolve issues of 21st Century technology with a law that was written in the era of the adding machine,” says Smith, referring to the FBI’s use of the 1789 All Writs Act.

Not long after Microsoft declares that they will be siding with Apple, Re/Code reports that Twitter and Facebook will also be giving legal support to Apple in this case. There may also be a possibility that more technology companies will be getting themselves involve in the encryption battle as one source told Re/Code that “the industry is aligned and working on a joint submission to the court”.
