Google has decided that its Cardboard viewer stats are now boast-worthy, hence the company has revealed some of them conveniently at Mobile World Congress Barcelona. Google has now shipped more than 10 million Cardboard viewers, and has recorded over 160 million downloads of Cardboard apps on the Google Play Store, 30 of them surpassing the 1 million mark.
Google has also claimed that people spend more time using its Daydream VR headset – roughly 40 minutes in a week. Also, there are now six Daydream ready smartphones in total and 100 Daydream apps to fiddle around with. With the statistics, Google has announced Sky VR, an app which offers premium content such as 360 videos exclusively from Sky’s partners such as Star Wars: Red Carpet, The Jungle Book by Disney and more.
In developing the growth of Tango technology, Google has brought in The Sims, Chelsea Kicker and WSJ AR, 3 new Augmented Reality (AR) experiences for Tango smartphones such as the ASUS ZenFone AR and the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. The Sims AR will allow users to travel around in a Sim’s home, Chelsea Kicker places a Chelsea soccer player in front of your eyes (in the smartphone), making him available to be taken pictures with, or best him in soccer tricks. WSJ AR enables users to visualize stock trends.
It seems like a bright future ahead for both VR And AR technology. We should be expecting more Tango enabled smartphones to be made and more people acquiring Google’s Daydream headset in the days to come. Thoughts?
