Previously Google promised to provide Google Pixel owners with a Duplex service, which means Google Assistant in their smartphones will help them perform tasks such as purchasing movie tickets, making reservations in restaurant and so on.
With the Duplex technology, the Assistant can comprehend human speeches regardless of the sentence complexity or the speed and length of speech hence allowing natural response in conversations. The Assistantcan also perform online booking services and will then put a calendar reminder in the user’s smartphone once they have booked an appointment for the user, whether it is by phone call or online booking.
The exciting part is that Duplex has already reached a number of Pixel owners, thus giving them the opportunity to test out the new technology. The Duplex technology is great because it makes an AI sound like a human, but at the same time Google designed it with built-in disclosure so that it will not be perceived as a form on deception instead.
That being said, it is not wrong to be worried about how this technology might be adapted to be used in scams and what not, but it is also an amazing achievement that when used correctly can greatly benefit and ease humans’ daily lives.
