Google Assistant may be coming to the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P

Up until now, Google has kept Google Assistant close to its heart as the digital assistant has only been made available for the Pixel smartphones and the Google Home smart speaker. However, that may no longer be the case as it appears that Google is looking to make its digital assistant available for the Nexus smartphones as well.

According to a tweet by 9to5Google’s Senior Editor Stephen Hall, it appears that Google Assistant will be arriving on the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P in the next “major” update. Nothing was said as to when said “major” update will be made available, so you shouldn’t expect the feature to be made available anytime soon.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Google has ported over previously Pixel-exclusive features to the older Nexus smartphones of course. Just last week, Google brought the Pixel’s fingerprint gestures over to the Nexus smartphones. Google’s decision to bring over its assistant to the Nexus smartphones could be a much needed one considering the fact that the A.I. has only been made available on an extremely limited amount of devices. With other smartphone companies aiming to launch digital assistants of their own, Google needs to push Google Assistant as aggressively as possible before its A.I. gets lost in the shuffle.
