As the announcement of HTC taking off their stocks from the market, there were two scenarios, the Taiwanese company is finally going to close its doors after suffering losses for a long time, or Google is going to pick them up which was based on rumours that were going around. It seems like the rumours are somewhat true as they have confirmed that they will be acquiring part of HTC’s mobile division team for $1.1 billion.
All is not lost, as HTC will still be producing their own phones as HTC CEO Cher Wang said that this acquisition will ensure continued innovation on their smartphones and virtual reality business. In a press release that HTC sent out, they mentioned that they are already preparing for their next flagship phone. Google is not new to acquiring smartphone companies as they did the same with Motorola but in 2014 they have sold the company to Lenovo. There are also worries that Google might be going directly against other phone manufacturers like Samsung and LG as they are looking to get a bigger piece of the pie in the smartphone market.
