The Gionee M7 will be going against the 18:9 display smartphones of 2017

It hasn’t been a really smooth journey for Gionee in the smartphone industry. The Chinese market has been dominated by the local big players such as OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi, causing the likes of Gionee to be less popular than household brands. Gionee used to have a good run of glory days, but has since declined in general popularity. That might change as the company will be unveiling a near bezel-less display smartphone later this month.

The upcoming handset by Gionee is known as the M7 Power. The M7 Power is probably the successor to Gionee’s M6 series from last year, which packed at least 5,000mAh of battery, depending on the variant. While battery power and longevity might not be the focus of this year’s M7 Power, Gionee will be taking on the trending feature – bezel-less front displays.

The image teaser posted on Chinese micro site Weibo reveals it all. The Gionee M7 Power will sport an extremely thin bezeled front display, most likely of 18:9 aspect ratio. It is claimed to be “More than FullView Display”, as stated in the teaser itself. The handset is probably aimed to contend the elite folk of tall display smartphones such as the Galaxy S8, LG G6 and the LG V30.

The teaser image of the Gionee M7 Power definitely seems promising. Hopefully we won’t be disappointed when it launches on September 28 in Thailand. What do you think of this underdog?
