Geekbench scores indicates the Kirin 980 can’t keep up to Apple’s A12 processor

The next craze in mobile processors is designing the chip using 7nm technology, this helps with power consumption which will directly affect how fast the phone will run out of battery. Huawei has released the first 7nm chip on Android with the Kirin 980 processor. The company has claimed that the chip will be the fastest processor beating Apple’s A-series as well as the Snapdragon processors.

The Kirin 980 was put to the test via Geekbench using the upcoming Mate 20 phone and the results are not what we expected. Huawei’s Mate 20 with the Kirin 980 has only managed to score 3390 on the single-core test and 10318 on the multi-core test. To put that into comparison, the A12 Bionic on the iPhone XS has achieved 4795 on the single-core test and 11170 on the multi-core test, that’s roughly a 30 percent better performance on the iPhone XS compared to the Kirin 980.

However, you should take this information with a grain of salt as the phone has not released so this could very well be a development unit. Nevertheless, the Kirin 980 does show better scores when compared to the Snapdragon 845 and the Exynos 9810.
