Geekbench result reveals possible MediaTek variants of the Galaxy S7

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were launched during MWC last month, but the flagship duo have varying SoC’s underneath the hood. Depending on your region, you’re either getting the Snapdragon 820 variant or an Exynos 8890 variant of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. There are claims that the some features of the Snapdragon 820 have been toned down in order for the Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8890 to match up.

A notable one is the Snapdragon 820 variant of the Galaxy S7 retains Quick Charge 2.0 when the processor clearly supports Quick Charge 3.0. This is apparently because the Exynos 8890 chip doesn’t have the charging technology equivalent of Quick Charge 3.0. Now that the drama has sort of died out, results from Geekbench tells us that we might be looking at a MediaTek model of the S7. Production issues, perhaps?

Based on the results, a Samsung SM-G930W8 will come in yet another two different variants, one with a Helio X20 processor with 3GB of RAM and the other, a Helio X25 chip alongside 4GB of RAM. If the rumors are true, then we will most probably be anticipating Samsung’s first MediaTek powered flagship handset, or handsets, or maybe the company is preparing for a worst case scenario whereby production of Snapdragon and Exynos processors are delayed. Time will tell. Let us know your thoughts at the comments section below!
