Fitbit has recently released the Fitbit Charge 5; the fitness tracker takes on a different design compared to its predecessors and now comes with some interesting upgrades and premium features.
As revealed by previous leaks, the Charge 5 now has a display with rounded curves paired with a dual-clasp strap. It’s also the first in the lineup to come with an AMOLED colour screen and the Always-On display feature. It’s 10% thinner than the Fitbit Charge 4 and has a 1.04-inch panel.
Fitbit Charge 5 will sport some features previously seen on the Fitbit Sense
sensors. These sensors allow it to detect skin temperature variation, measure stress through changes in sweat glands and track your heart’s electrical activity.
Apart from that, you’ll get the usual sensors like an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, red and infrared sensors to track your SpO2 and an altimeter. There’s also an NFC sensor for contactless payment (Fitbit Pay).
Moving on to fitness features, the Charge 5 is capable of tracking 20 different exercises and even automatically recognises several exercises like running and cycling. As it water resistant up to 50m, this tracker can be worn when swimming or in the shower. For those who are exercising outdoors, the tracker’s built-in GPS can track your distance and real-time pace, in addition to a workout intensity map that shows you your heart rate zones. These information can be seen on the Fitbit app.
However, Fitbit did not change much when it comes to the battery life – the Charge 5 offers up to 7 days like the Charge 4, but that is of course dependent on user’s usage. If you’re using GPS continuously, the fitness tracker can only last 5 hours at most.
Fitbit Premium to offer new feature
In addition to that, Charge 5 users will also enjoy six months of Fitbit Premium for free. One of the new features that will be available in the premium subscription is Daily Readiness; it provides users with data that let them know their body condition so they can decide to take a break that day or to continue working out. This data will show user’s fitness fatigue score, heart rate variability and sleep score.
The Fitbit Charge 5 can be pre-ordered now at RM878 and will be shipped by late September. You can get the bands in two sizes depending on the circumference of your wrist, and the tracker itself is available three colours – Steel Blue, Lunar White and Black.
