Fast Pair is Android’s take on Apple’s AirPods pairing

In just a couple more years, almost all your accessories and gadgets will probably go wireless and that would also mean the way to listen to music on your mobile device. With that, Google has just announced Fast Pair, a similar method on how the AirPods links with the iPhone but this would work on all Android devices that are even running on Android 6.0

Your phone will automatically detect Bluetooth accessories within the reach of your Bluetooth signal and display them for you, making it easier to select and pair your phone with the device. Your phone will fetch the device name, image and companion app if it exists from Google’s own servers. If the pairing is successful, it will ask if you would like to download the companion app. The pairing process still uses traditional Bluetooth so it just adds a layer of convenience to hook up your devices to your phone, but it is still a big step forward when it comes to a wireless world.

So far there are only a handful of devices that support Fast Pair like, Google’s Pixel Buds, Libratone’s Q Adapt On-Ear, and Plantronics Voyager 8200-series, users will need to install the latest version of Google Play Services which should automatically be updated in the next coming days.
