Facebook is scraping plan to put ads in WhatsApp…for now

It was just last year when Facebook is reportedly planning to integrate ads into WhatsApp, but now The Wall Street Journal has reported otherwise.

Based on the report, the team that had been on the project is now disbanded, in addition to their work being erased from WhatsApp’s code. But that’s not the end of ads in WhatsApp; Facebook is still planning to integrate ads into WhatsApp, but only in its Status tab.

Facebook’s sudden decision came as quite a shock, especially since it is said to have been one of the reasons why WhatsApp founders have left after Facebook bought over the company. But Facebook is reported to be focusing on “money-making features allowing businesses to communicate with customers”, though there weren’t any specifics.

One way or another, Facebook hasn’t given up on getting more profit out of WhatsApp. It’s only a matter of time before there are ads in WhatsApp Status.
