Facebook adds three new Portal devices starting from $129

Facebook received a lot of backlash last year regarding its privacy scandals, but it was also the year where they launch their first tablet-like device called Portal.

Now, Facebook is launching the next generation Portal devices — three models to be exact. This time, they’ll start even cheaper at $129. They are the Portal Mini, Portal TV and a redesigned Portal. The new Portal now has a 10-inch HD display while the Portal mini is (obviously) smaller with an 8-inch display.

As for the Portal TV, there will be no display like the other two Portal devices. Instead, the Portal TV is a webcam-like device that will let you turn your TV into a huge video chat screen.

While previously Facebook only supported Messenger calling, the company now includes WhatsApp support. There will also be Amazon Prime Video so you can watch shows on the devices and similarly to the first generation, the Portal devices lets you disable the camera and microphone for those who are worried about their privacy being invaded.

Facebook also make sure that the Smart Camera and Smart Sound features are only running in the device itself and will not be processed or transferred to Facebook servers so you can rest assured that they won’t be keeping recordings of your conversations.
