Facebook in the works of a camera app

Snapchat has caught the world by storm with their app. Having started off as a simple camera and messaging app, Snapchat boasted more than 6 billion views in video traffic as of last year. The company is worth $16 billion, a massive value for a 5 year old startup. On the other hand, the Facebook has always been looking for ways to dominate every single aspect of social media, and this time, it is working on a camera app.

The Wall Street Journal has claimed that the camera app in the works by Facebook is rumored to borrow a major element from Snapchat, being the instant launch to the camera viewfinder upon opening the app. This feature is said to be vital to current Snapchat users because of its simplicity that encourages them to snap pictures or record videos instantly. This certainly isn’t the first time Facebook is attempting to take part in the photo-oriented app spectrum. A couple of years back in 2012, Facebook Camera was launched, carrying similar features like Instagram, but was eventually shutdown due to its near fruitless results.

However, it seems like Facebook won’t be failing this time around. Facebook’s live streaming feature has gotten off to a great start, with many social media celebrities and media companies alike, using the feature to promote themselves. Recently, there were more than 800,000 live viewers of a video where BuzzFeed employees added rubberbands to a watermelon till it blew up. The video was 45 minutes long. If social media isn’t crazy then I don’t know what is. What do you think?
