Facebook adds SMS option to Messenger for Android

SMSes are not quite dead yet as a recent update for Facebook’s Messenger app for Android has receive an SMS integration feature today.

For those who were not aware, Facebook has been testing SMS integration for their Messenger app for quite a while now. Today, said feature is finally live and you can now send SMSes through the app. You’ll need to personally enable the feature though as it isn’t enabled by default. Once activated, your can start sending and receiving SMSes from the Messenger app. All SMSes are highlighted in purple, allow you to distinguish between SMSes and regular Messenger messages easily.

A perk of sending SMSes through Messenger is that you are able to include stickers, GIFs, emojis and location sharing, much like a regular Messenger conversation. That said, what you’re sending is still an SMS, so SMS fees do apply.

Do note that SMS integration is limited to Android only, so iOS Messenger users are out of luck.
