Epic Games secures Borderlands 3 as a six-month exclusive – Steam to release the game in April 2020

It’s happening again boys and girls – Epic has sunken their greedy claws on yet another upcoming PC AAA title. This time around, the game in question is the highly-anticipated shooter Borderlands 3 which is set to release in September this year.

Previously the gaming world got up in arms about Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds being announced as a Epic Store excusive until April of 2020. As it turns out, Borderlands will face the same fate as it too will only come to other digital platforms on PC on the same month of next year.

We’ve mentioned this before in our previous coverage of this matter – what gamers – and ultimately consumers, regardless of industry – want is options; a competitive market where gamers are given the options to purchase whatever from wherever they want is a healthy one.

As you may already know, the Epic Games store already have The Division 2 and Metro Exodus under their belts as exclusive. They have now expanded their hold on products from other developers too. Since Borderlands 3 is published by 2K Games, one must wonder if future 2K titles such as NBA 2K, XCOM and Civilization would be roped in as Epic Stores exclusives too.

This is bad folks. Monopoly, even if its just for a limited period of time, is bad for any market, especially the gaming one where consumer options have always been at the forefront of the industry’s success.
