Elephone beats Huawei on having 5 camera sensors on a phone

2018 seems to be a year where smartphone companies tend to compare whether they can have the thinnest display notch or the most number of camera sensors. As for the latter, the Elephone U2 is now the champ of having the most camera sensors – three on the rear like Huawei’s P20 Pro, and two on the front with a motorized sensor that works similar to the vivo NEX.

In terms of overall design, the Elephone U2 looks like the brainchild of the OPPO Find X and vivo NEX, sporting a notch-less 6.26-inch display on the front, and a OPPO Find X inspired glass back with a rear fingerprint scanner.

It is unclear of what the rear camera setup would do, but we could expect it to have the very same function as the P20 Pro, with two of the main sensors being RGB and Monochrome wide angle lenses, and the third one being a telephoto lens.

Judging from the promo picture, the Elephone U2 seems to be a rather high end handset that will ship with Android 9.0 when it goes on sale, there’s also a translator feature, which we assume to be some kind of text recognition translation feature that leverages on the phone’s camera. Elephone smartphones aren’t officially available here, but you could probably keep tabs on sites such as GearBest if you are interested in getting one.
