Double tap to wake feature available on new Pixel update

We can confidently say that most Android enthusiasts favor the clean and stock version of Android, leading to the popularity of Google’s phones. However, most of us admittedly, would like some form of customization or nifty features on our Android handsets, like the ones seen on most OEM skins and custom ROM’s such as CyanogenMod. Gestures such as double tap to wake have been existent in different ROM’s for the past number of years, and it looks like Canadian Pixel users are getting the feature via a software update, ahead of the rest of the world.

The gesture or feature is known as “Double-tap to check phone” on the Google Pixel series. In other words, users will be able to view notifications without having to press the power button to unlock the screen. Double tapping to wake a device, although sometimes deemed as a gesture that requires a little more battery juice, is often seen as a really handy feature. Another feature that has made its way to Canadian Pixel handsets is “Lift to check phone”, adding another option to view your phone without pressing the power button.

The “Lift to check phone” feature allows users to be able to see their phone’s notifications just by simply lifting their phone up, may it be from the table or from a pants pocket. Both “Double-tap to check phone” and “Lift to check phone” are features which have been reportedly only available for Canadian Pixel phones for the time being. But the good news is you will be able to get those features up and running on your Pixel handset as well, if you don’t happen to reside in Canada. Download links for the new Pixel and Pixel XL software updates have been located, and both updates are a little over 260MB:

What do you think of Google rolling out handy features like the ones we’ve mentioned earlier?
