DJI's Zenmuse Z3 drone camera has a 7x zoom for getting closer to your subjects while airborne

Drones aren’t just used for aerial photography as they could be used for other purposes, such as rescue missions and site monitoring, which helps a lot when you are unable to enter the place for safety reasons, that’s why DJI introduced the Zenmuse Z3, a 12-megapixel camera with a 7x zoom capability made for the company’s Inspire 1, Matrice 100 and Matrice 600 drones, the camera will have a focal range of 22mm-77mm with an aperture range of f/2.8-f/5.2 on a Sony 1/2.3-inch sensor. The camera’s zoom is achieved by having 3.5x optical and 2x digital lossless zoom, which allows the user to get closer to the subject without flying too closely.

The Zenmuse Z3’s is intended for site inspection and surveying, it is also fully integrated into the DJI GO app where users can control the camera’s movement and zoom. The camera is capable of shooting Adobe DNG RAW images and records 4K videos at 30 fps, flight time is rated at 19 minutes when used on a DJI Inspire 1, while pilots can also extend the flight time up to 19 minutes on the Matrice M100’s dual battery setup and up to 39 minutes on the Matrice M600.

DJI will begin selling the Zenmuse Z3 on July 28 onwards and retails at US$899.
