CES 2018: Asus launches Chromebox 3 powered by 8th gen Intel processor

Chrome OS might not be the most widely operating system in the market, and although Chromeboxes and Chomebooks can carry premium price tags for their limited capabilities, they still exist today for lightweight users. Asus has unveiled a Chromebox refresh at CES 2018, which features Intel’s latest generation processor.

The Chromebox 3 sports a design similar to its predecessor the Chromebox 2. This marks more than 2 years since Asus did a refresh on its Chromebox. It is still the same old square shaped compact machine, with a bunch of ports – 2 USB 3.0 ports, a USB Type-C port for future proofing, a microSD card slot, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, Gigabit LAN, a DisplayPort, and a HDMI port.

Underneath the hood, the Chromebox 3 is powered by an Intel 8th generation processor, along with DDR4-2400 type memory. Asus did not disclose any specific processor or the amount of RAM this Chromebox packs, but we don’t expect high end specs since Chrome OS does not require a lot of processing power.

Asus did not reveal the pricing of the Chromebox 3 either, but the company did mention that it will be available in the second half of this year, which is still at least 5 months away. Stay tuned for more news relating to CES 2018!
