CES 2017: The ZTE Axon 7 Max features a larger display and an extra camera

It looks like ZTE has begun making dual camera phones as well, like most major smartphone manufacturers out there. Having unveiled in China late last year, the ZTE Axon 7 Max finally makes an appearance to western shores at CES 2017, Las Vegas.

Compared to the company’s Axon 7 flagship, the Axon 7 Max sports a more rectangular design with sharper edge, possibly giving users a better grip, depending on personal preference. The phone does away with the front firing speakers, which is a bummer. Seen on the front is a large 6-inch display at 1080p Full HD resolution. The display appears to be called the “Naked Eye 3D Display”, allowing users to view 3D images and videos without 3D glasses. Things also differ when you look underneath the hood. The Axon 7 Max is powered by a mid range Snapdragon 625 processor, unlike the top tier Snapdragon 820 chip in the Axon 7. Alongside that are 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, further expandable to 256GB via the micro SD card slot.

With a larger form factor, ZTE has also added an extra camera to the Axon 7 Max. The Axon 7 only sports a single 21MP rear camera, but the Max variant is equipped with two 13MP image sensors with an f/2.0 aperture. The dual rear camera setup, coupled with ZTE’s software enables the Axon 7 Max to capture 3D images. This feature however, only works when capturing photos in landscape mode, and with objects being a certain distance away from the cameras. Moving onto to front, the phablet sports yet another 13MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture, ideal for hi-res selfie shots.

The ZTE Axon 7 Max’s larger screen and extra camera would mean that it requires more power, and ZTE has got that aspect covered. The handset packs a large 4,100mAh battery and supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.

There seems to be no word of the ZTE Axon 7 Max going out of China in the near future, hence we are still stuck with the China pricing of the device at 2,999 CNY (RM1,938.94). Keep your eyes peeled if ZTE were to announce a global availability of the Axon 7 Max. Till then, stay tuned as we bring you more CES 2017 coverage!
