Black Shark 5 series launches in China, to be available in Malaysia on May 2022

The Black Shark 5 series has finally been unveiled by Black Shark in its China launch event, comprising the Black Shark 5, Black Shark 5 RS and Black Shark 5 Pro, only the top of the line Pro variant will come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, but despite that they still feature an all-new cleaner design with the SharkEye RG lighting effect at the back.

Black Shark 5 Pro

Leading the pack, the Black Shark 5 Pro is the most sophisticated gaming phone ever made as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip is cooled by two vapor chambers, which measures at 4,323 mm² + 997 mm², it comes with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while interestingly the storage is split equally between an NVMe SSD and UFS 3.1 that offers faster storage performance than any others.

The Black Shark 5 Pro also features an upgraded 6.67-inch AMOLED display that refreshes at 144Hz and supports 10-bit colors, the 720Hz touch sampling rate remains one of the highest in the industry, while there are magnetic triggers on the top left and right that allow gamers to map functions in games.

In terms of cameras, the Black Shark 5 Pro has a triple camera system that comprise of a large 108MP 1/1.52″ sensor, a 13MP ultrawide and a 5MP telephoto macro lens. Equipped with a 4650mAh battery, the Black Shark 5 Pro can be fully charged in 15 minutes with the included 120W fast charger.

Black Shark 5 RS

While the Black Shark 5 RS looks very much like the Black Shark 4 Pro albeit with flatter corners, the phone comes with a Snapdragon 888 or 888+ processor while only the latter will be paired with a 12GB+256GB storage variant, the storage system is also split equally between an NVMe SSD and UFS 3.1 storage and the processor is cooled by two vapor chambers as well.

Display wise, the RS has a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel that doesn’t support 10-bit colors, but still supports the DCI-P3 color space and HDR10 with a peak brightness of 1300 nits, it refreshes at 144Hz and has a touch sampling rate of 720Hz, the phone feature the same speakers from the Pro sibling, and you’ll be glad to know that it comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack that the Pro lacks.

Camera wise, the RS drops the main camera to 64MP but retains the same 13MP ultrawide and 5MP telephoto macro lens. Battery is also slightly smaller at 4500mAh but you still get 120W fast charging that will juice up the phone in no time.

Black Shark 5

Made with a more accessible starting price of RMB2799 (RM1,855), the regular Black Shark 5 is still no slouch and is equipped with a Snapdragon 870 processor, though its cooling solution is the more conventional Sandwich vapor chamber unlike the dual vapor chamber cooling system on the RS and Pro, it also uses the UFS 3.1 storage rather than the dual storage solution but nonetheless, this should still be a very speedy device.

Black Shark 5 series availability in Malaysia

The new Black Shark 5 series are definitely interesting devices, and according to officials, these phones will tentatively reach the Malaysian market on May 2022, so make sure you watch out this space or Black Shark Malaysia’s Facebook page for any updates.
