ASUS Zenfone AR announced ahead of CES 2017

As CES 2017 is about to begin this week, expect a lot of things to be announced even before a press conference begins and one of the first annoucements we have here, is the Zenfone AR. Spotted by GSMArena and reported by The Verge, the ZenFone AR is being disclosed on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Blog and the post is accidentally set live ahead of its January 4th publish date, it is the second Google Tango enabled smartphone after the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which emphasizes on augmented reality and is expected to make appearance in ASUS’s Zennovation event in CES 2017.

The ZenFone AR is the first Tango smartphone to be powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor, which is the fastest smartphone that runs AR and outperforms the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which was launched back in Malaysia last month that is powered by a Snapdragon 652 processor. In addition, the Zenfone AR is also reported to be Daydream-ready, which means you should be able to use Google’s Daydream headset to view VR content, hence it is also the first smartphone to be equipped with both Tango and Daydream. Looking at the press render itself, it would seem that the Zenfone AR doesn’t look too different from the current Zenfone 3, you still get a home button with a fingerprint scanner on the front, slim bezels on the screen with a good screen-to-body aspect ratio, otherwise there is a dual camera setup on the back for AR purposes.

We will be at CES 2017 and hope to get a hands on with the Zenfone AR when possible, so stay tuned on our site for more.
