ASUS ROG Phone 6 series goes official from RM3,599

ASUS has pulled the wraps off the ROG Phone 6 series at its global launch event today, with the main highlight being the first Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone series to go on sale in global markets, it is also the first IPX4 splash resistant gaming phone and features several upgrades that makes it one of the best flagship gaming phone this year.

Sporting a notchless 6.78-inch LTPO display that refreshes at 165Hz, the ROG Phone 6 has a dedicated PixelWorks i6 display processor that enables it to cover over 111% DCI-P3 color gamut that achieves a Delta value of E<1, while having 720Hz touch sampling rate and 25ms touch latency, this is one smartphone display that can never be unseen once you see it up close.

The series will comprise of the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro, both phones differ mainly in design and storage configurations, the ROG Phone 6 will come in 12GB RAM+256GB and 16GB RAM+512GB storage options, while the ROG Phone 6 Pro offers 18GB RAM+512GB storage. Design wise, the ROG Phone 6 features an Aura RGB lighting on the back while the Pro offers a customizable ROG Vision mini-display similar to the previous ROG Phone 5s Pro.

Otherwise, both phones feature dual-cell 6000mAh batteries with 65W fast charging, triple camera system that comprise of a 50MP Sony IMX766 main, 13MP ultrawide and 5MP macro lens, a 12MP front facing camera, two USB-C ports and a headphone jack.

In terms of thermals and performance, ASUS has shifted the placement of the SoC to the center of the phone with a new 360-degree CPU cooling technology, 30% larger vapor chamber and 85% larger graphite sheets compared to previous models, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip is expected to offer 50% performance improvement over the Snapdragon 888 that powers the ROG Phone 5.

Thermals can be further improved with a new optional AeroActive Cooler 6 accessory, which draws power directly from the phone’s side USB-C port and is mounted to rear center of the phone, which further cools down the SoC up to 25°C when gaming for extended hours.

Apart from the AeroActive Cooler 6, ASUS has also introduced other new accessories alongside the ROG Phone 6 series, such as the ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad for ROG Phone 6, ROG Phone 6 Glass Screen Protector, ROG Cetra True Wireless Pro, ROG Cetra True Wireless Gaming headphones and ROG Delta S Wireless gaming headset.

ROG Phone 6 Malaysia pricing and availability

The ROG Phone 6 will be generally available starting August 2022 onwards and comes in color options of Storm White and Phantom Black, it retails at RM3,599 for the 12GB+256GB storage model, RM4,399 for the 16GB+512GB storage model.

The ROG Phone 6 Pro with 18GB RAM and 512GB storage will arrive later at September 2022 and retails at RM4,999.

Preorders of the ROG Phone 6 series will commence on 6th July 2022 onwards on Shopee and offline channels, customers can score up to RM548 worth of early bird freebies when they make their purchase during the period, including a 1-year warranty extension worth RM199 and an AeroActive Cooler 6 worth RM349.

On top of that, customers will also be entitled to 10% off on the ROG Slash Hip Bag and ROG Slash Crossbody Bag, which retails originally at RM499 and RM399 respectively.
