It was two weeks ago when the ASUS finally put the ZenFone AR on sale in its home land Taiwan. The official release comes more than 5 months after it was unveiled back at CES 2017 Las Vegas. Being the first ever Tango and Daydream compatible smartphone, the ASUS ZenFone AR looks ready to make a Malaysian appearance as well.
ASUS intends for the ZenFone AR to push the boundaries of how we consume media on our devices, bringing Google’s Tango and Daydream technology to the handset. Virtual reality is picking up its pace, as augmented reality is still in its early stages. For all the Tango and Daydream features, the ZenFone AR sports a QHD screen, a high end Snapdragon 821 processor with up to 8GB of RAM. In fact, it was the first known smartphone to launch with 8GB of RAM, before the Nubia Z11 and the more recent OnePlus 5.
The phone features a 23MP rear camera as well, along with multiple sensors for depth and motion tracking purposes. The ZenFone AR carries a Malaysian equivalent price tag of RM 3,527.80 in Taiwan. It is likely that the phone will be pricier in local Malaysian stores, but we hope that it will stay below the RM 4,000 mark. Stay tuned for our coverage of the ASUS press event next month!
