Apple will help you retrieve your lost AirPods via the 'Find My iPhone' app

Show anyone a video of the AirPods and chances are good that one of the few questions that would pop into their mind would be “what if you lose them?” Apple is probably aware of how easy it is someone could potentially lose their expensive, wireless earphones, which is probably why the company will be implementing a feature that will let AirPod owners locate their missing earphones via the ‘Find My iPhone’ app.

Available in the upcoming iOS 10.3 update, Apple will implement a feature that would help you locate your AirPods by using the iPhone’s GPS. As the AirPods themselves do not come with any GPS system of their own, this feature won’t be able to pinpoint the exact location of the lost earphones. What the Find My iPhone app will do is that it will highlight the location where the AirPods were last in range of an iOS device.

If the AirPods just so happens to be out of range of any iOS devices, the Find My iPhone app will show you a general location of where the earphones was last detected by your device. To help assist the search further, the AirPods will also play a sound through the earbuds, allowing you to locate it easily if you just so happen to lose it in a silent location. Unfortunately, if the AirPods’ battery were to be drained when you lose it, then you’re completely out of luck.
