It seems that future iPhones may have a touch of Korean to it as Apple may be buying OLED display panels from both Samsung and LG.

While the deal hasn’t been finalised just yet, reports are saying that the deal is “close to a final agreement”. If the deal does go through, do not expect an OLED-powered iPhone this year as the first batch of iPhones that will ship with the OLED screens may not be available until 2018. Going by Apple’s release schedule, the first iPhone that will be utilising Samsung and LG’s OLED display will most likely be the iPhone 8.

According to Reuters, LG and Samsung Display have planned a combined 15 trillion won (USD12.8 billion) in capital expenditure to build up OLED production capacity over the next two to three years. Apple is expected to provide some funding to both firms to help with the investments.
