Apple launches iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max smartphones with new A13 Bionic chipset and square camera modules

The new Apple iPhone 11 series is finally upon us – so much talk over the past few months has led up to this, and they’ve been quite accurate. The new iteration of the smartphone will see all three iPhone 11 models comes with a square camera module – yikes.

But as we do every year, let’s break down the specs – the iPhone 11 is a 6.1-inch device boasting a Liquid Retina HD IPS LCD display. It pushes 625 nits of brightness and features True Tone and Haptic Touch technology.

The back is reinforced with dual ion-charged glass which Apple claims is the toughest glass on a smartphone. Surrounding the glass is an aluminium frame – this time Apple says the aluminium is fully recyclable.

Here’s where things get interesting – the iPhone 11 gets a dual lens setup (12MP main and 12MP ultrawide lens). So, it seems like the company is playing the catch up game in photography equipment – but knowing Apple, we can expect the actual performance to rival the best Android devices to date. Night mode has been bolstered while depth focus adjustment has been introduced.

The selfie lens is a 12MP TrueDepth Camera and features a new slow-motion video support. You can also shoot 4K videos at 24 fps.

Under the hood is the all-new A13 Bionic chipset which Apple claims far exceeds the performance of its predecessor. In terms of storage you can get it with 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Although Apple hasn’t shared the specifications of the battery, they claim that the iPhone 11 lasts one hour longer than the iPhone XR. Meanwhile, an 18W fast charging power adapter will now come inside the box.

Next, let’s move on to the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Interestingly, the iPhone 11 Pro is a smaller 5.8-inch device, while the 11 Pro Max is a 6.5-inch mammoth. Both phones sport the new Super Retina XDR display which pushes sharper images and more vibrant colours. Both push a whopping 1,200 nits of max brightness in HDR.

Over at the back we’ll find three lenses now, the extra one is a 12MP telephoto lens that allows fo 2x optical zoom in and out, as well as up to 10x digital zoom. Like the regular iPhone 11, the ultrawide lens also works when taking videos, but with the Pro you also get the aid of the telephoto lens for zooming.

Elsewhere, the Pro and Pro Max is similar to the regular iPhone 11 – except for battery size. Apple claims that the 11 Pro lasts 4 hours more than the iPhone XS, while the 11 Pro Max lasts 5 hours longer than the XS Max.

All three models charge via lighting cable and will ship with iOS 13. The iPhone 11 is priced from RM3,399; while the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max will be available from RM4,899 and RM5,299 respectively. All three models are available for order on September 13 and will be available in stores this September 20. Visit Apple Malaysia’s website for more information on the phones.
