Apple introduces repair program for MacBook and MacBook Pro keyboard issues

If you have been using a modern MacBook or MacBook Pro that comes with the infamous flat butterfly switches, Apple has introduced a new repair program for those who are facing issues with it, this comes after several complains from customers, one of the more well known issues include dust stuck under the keys causing them unable to type properly.

With this worldwide repair program, customers who encounter issues with their MacBook’s keyboard can request for a free replacement within 4 years of the purchase date, and you don’t need to own an Apple Care Protection Plan to be eligible for it.

According to Apple’s support page for the issue, the service center could either replace a single key or the entire keyboard after being diagnosed with the following issues:

  • Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
  • Letters or characters do not appear
  • Key(s) feel “sticky” or do not respond in a consistent manner

If you happen to have paid for a fee to replace your MacBook’s keyboard recently, you are eligible to request a refund. Its good to see Apple responding to this issue in a proactive manner and even extending the support for the next 4 years of your purchase, and let’s hope that the company will introduce better keyboards for the next generation of MacBooks.
