Apple wants to help with relieving the floods, but Malaysians don’t want the money to go to the government

Currently, Malaysia and Philipinnes are facing the effects of Typhoon Rai, with heavy damages and floods happening throughout both countries causing hundreds of casualties and citizens to be displaced.

Thankfully, in this time of need Apple‘s CEO, Tim Cook, has published a tweet saying that Apple is willing to donate to relief, recover and rebuild the damages done by the flood, but it seems that Netizens would happily accept the donations, under the condition that it would NOT go the government.

It still isn’t clear how much Apple is willing to give, but earlier this week they said that they will be donating to the tornado damages in the United States too. As we said earlier, Malaysian’s don’t want Apple’s donations to go to the government, as they criticized the government for not taking enough action to help those in need compared to other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), who seemed to be putting it as their first priority.

Users from the Philipines also came forward and had spoken about the issues within the government, and were agreeing with what the Malaysian Netizens had to say, mostly discussing “corruption” in their countries. Even earlier when the floods first started, Malaysians were already criticizing the government for hosting events for the relief instead of going into the field to help.

With that being said, there are still many struggling during this time, and we will have to see what the government will do next, and whether or not Apple will listen to the people and donate to the NGOs.
