Android Wear 2.0 will be available next month

The long-awaited Android Wear 2.0 platform will soon be available on Android Wear smartwatches as a notice sent by Google to Android Wear developers has highlighted that the platform will be launching in early February 2017.

Originally planned for a Fall 2016 launch, Android Wear 2.0 was delayed due to negative feedback that came with the developer preview. The latest notice issued by Google confirms that Android Wear 2.0 will finally be ready for launch come February and as such, developers should begin updating their apps as unoptimised apps for Android Wear 2.0 will not appear on the on-watch Play Store.

Alongside the launch of Android Wear 2.0, Google is expected to release two new “flagship” watches, codenamed “Angelfish” and “Swordfish”. Both these smartwatches will run on Android Wear 2.0, and it will also come with Google Assistant support.

No fixed date was announced for Android Wear 2.0’s launch yet, but the early February timeline probably means that it would be launched within the first two weeks of the month.
