Android P promised for current Android Nokia smartphones

With Android Oreo barely kicking off, and Android Nougat currently only on a minority of modern Android handsets, HMD Global has made a new promise for its current Nokia smartphones regarding software. The headline isn’t a typo by any means, as the company has promised Android P for its devices.

This great news comes as the software for Android Oreo was recently teased for Nokia Android devices, with a hint that the new software will be rolled out in the near future. HMD held a launch event for the Nokia 8 at the Philippines, in which the exciting news was announced by Shannon Mead, Country Manager for HMD Global.

Mead stated that HMD Global is committed to future proofing for its Nokia handsets. Most Android devices are currently on Android Lollipop and Marshmallow, but HMD has promised that the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 will indeed be getting Android Oreo and as far ahead as Android P. The future proofing of course includes the entry level Nokia 3 as well.

HMD Global has been working hard on software development as it continues to revive the Nokia brand. The current Nokia Android smartphones are running on stock Android without the unnecessary bells and whistles. When do you think Android Oreo software will be rolled out for these Nokia devices?
