Android O release will take place in conjunction with August 21 solar eclipse event

While Android Nougat is catching up in terms of the distribution of Android versions, many of us are looking forward to the official release of Android O, which is slated to happen some time in Q3 this year. Well known tipster Evan Blass has stated that the latest version of Android will be officially released on the week of August 21.

Blass has also highlighted that it might be on August 21 itself, which might coincide with a solar eclipse phenomenon happening in the United States. Given that O could resemble the sun or the moon, a launch in conjunction with a solar eclipse seems probable at this stage.

Android O brings a bunch of improvements and new features which will add value to the whole Android experience. Notable ones include adaptive notification dots and icons, picture-in-picture, smart text selection, physical keyboard support and a revamp in the overall look and aesthetic in terms of lock screen, notification shade and the system font.

Many have speculated Android O to be Android “Oreo” given the huge flow of Oreo biscuits available at Google’s I/O event not too long ago. Developer Previews of the software have also included an octopus easter egg. The internal codename for Android O is “oatmeal”, so time will tell.

Google’s Pixel handsets will most likely be the first ones to receive Android O when Google releases the software to the general public. The LG V20 was the first ever device to run on Android Nougat out of the box, will the LG V30 repeat the same feat with Android O?
