Android Nougat 7.1.1 update will arrive on all supported Google phones

Android Nougat users can expect an update to their operating system soon as Google has outlined some of the upcoming features that will be coming with the 7.1.1 update.

The first of the new features that will be coming to Nougat 7.1.1 are new emojis. Aimed to promote gender equality, the new set of emojis will contain women and men depicted in a wider range of professions.

Google will also be adding some new features for its “image keyboard” that will allow users to easily find and send pictures and GIFs without leaving your messaging app of choice. This feature will be supported by various messaging apps such as Google Allo, Google Messenger and Hangouts.

Finally, the Android 7.1.1 update will bring with it app shortcuts that can be accessed directly from the home screen. You will be able to launch actions on your favourite apps by simply long press the app icon. Doing so will bring up a menu that allows you to jump immediately to corresponding action.

Rollout of the 7.1.1 update for Android Nougat has begun and devices will receive the update over the air (OTA) over the coming weeks. This update will be available for supported Nexus devices and Pixel devices.
