Android N to be named Android Nougat

The people have spoken. Android N, formerly known as Namey McNameface, will now be officially called Android Nougat, continuing the trend of Android versions being named after confectionery.

Google’s upcoming Android version would be the first version whose name was crowdsourced by the public. While Google did not release other names that were chosen over Nougat, it’s safe to say that Nutella was one of them. After all, a Google Executive did tease the internet over the hazelnut spread. Unfortunately, it turned out that Nutella didn’t win, although the use of Nougat means that the Android versions will retain its sweet-toothed naming conventions.

As for the operating system itself, Android Nougat is currently in its second beta which brings new features such as an improved notification shade and split-screen multitasking to the OS. Google’s VR platform Daydream has also been implemented into Android Nougat, although that particular feature will only be available on Daydream-ready devices.
