American Galaxy Note 7 units will stop charging from December 15

With Samsung New Zealand and Canada carrying out measures to ensure that the unreturned Galaxy Note 7 phablets will be rendered useless, Samsung USA has also joined in on the fight to stop the usage of the device. Samsung NZ has stopped all local carrier services for the phone, making it lose cellular network access. Samsung Canada on the other hand, will stop Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality on the phablet, before eventually halting cellular services.

As for Samsung USA, the company has conducted a firm move to ensure that the remaining Galaxy Note 7 users won’t be able to use the phablet any longer. The company has sent a cellular message, stating:

“AS OF DEC. 15, SAMSUNG WILL MODIFY THE SOFTWARE TO PREVENT THE GALAXY NOTE7 FROM CHARGING. THE PHONE WILL NO LONGER WORK.’

The announcement comes after Samsung has recently pushed out an update that limits the Note 7’s charge to only 60 percent, to make it safer for use. The above message would mean that, beginning December the 15th, all US Galaxy Note 7 units will be unable to charge, forcing the hand of the users to either return the phablet to Samsung or to keep the it as a display prop at home.

As of one month ago, Samsung USA managed to recall 85 percent of Note 7 units across the country. The modification to stop the phone from charging is beyond disabling its services, a drastic measure indeed, but a good one as well. What do you think?
