AirAsia might launch its own cryptocurrency through their BIG Points loyalty card

It seems that the cryptocurrency fever has not stopped and has spread to one of our nation’s airlines. Tony Fernandes has told TechCrunch that he is understanding the potential to have an ICO to raise money and bring about a new cryptocurrency.

However, the method on how he plans to introduce the new crytocoins is quite interesting. During Money2020 in Singapore, he has mentioned that the BIG Points, AirAsia’s loyalty card, can be easily transferred to blockchain, and with a new payment system so users will have a platform to use the new currency. From what we have viewed with ICOs, they don’t seem to work out very well, with some being a scam and the others not picking off with users. Seeing as it is coming from a reputable company like AirAsia, this could be something to keep an eye out for. Nevertheless, it is always better to know what is the plan for the new coins and how users can not only redeem from the company but if it can be converted to physical, real-world currency.

Malaysia is not known for utalizing cryptocurrency, but if AirAsia’s cyptocoins were to get approved for use in the country, this might open up some doors to finally allow this digital currency to flourish in Malaysia
