Liquid cooled laptop isn’t so much a myth anymore ever since ASUS introduced the world to the RoG GX700. It probably isn’t an exaggeration to say that when people think of liquid cooled laptops, the first thing that pops into mind is a huge peripheral that comes with the laptop. Well, that is not the case as Acer has debuted a liquid-cooled, Surface-style 2-in-1 that doesn’t come with any chunky peripherals.
Called the Acer Switch Alpha 12, this 2-in-1 comes with a 12″ screen that has a resolution of 2,160 x 1,400. Weighing in at 1.98 pounds without the keyboard, the Switch Alpha 12 is powered by a 6th-gen Intel Core processor. Much like the Surface, the Switch Alpha 12 will come with its own set of peripherals such as a detatchable keyboard and the Active Pen stylus.
Of course, the main attraction of the Switch Alpha 12 is the liquid cooling. According to Acer, the 2-in-1 uses the heat of the ccoolant as it expands into gas to keep the entire system moving. This allows the Switch Alpha 12 to utilise liquid cooling without the need for an external radiator or pump. Another interesting fact of the Switch Alpha 12’s cooling system is that it is chilled solely by the liquid cooling system, which means that the 2-in-1 itself does not have a fan, allowing it to run silently.
Acer is expected to launch the Switch Alpha 12 in June. Prices for this device will start at USD 599.
