A Nintendo Switch patent hints that the console may be getting a VR headset

Today, Nintendo has filed multiple patents for the Nintendo Switch in the United States. That in itself isn’t too interesting. What is interesting however is the content of one particular slide which shows what could possibly be a VR headset for Nintendo’s upcoming console.

First discovered by the folks at NeoGAF, the slide shows what is presumably a VR headset peripheral that supports the Nintendo Switch. According to the slide, the Switch will be slid into position from the top of the headset. From this slide, one can immediately assume that Nintendo’s VR headset patent will be functionally identical to Google’s Daydream View headset or even Samsung’s Gear VR headset.

Of course, whether or not Nintendo will actually release a VR headset for the Switch remains to be seen. However, should Nintendo decide to move forward with a Switch VR Headset, we could safely assume that the company has learnt from its failure of the Virtual Boy.
