2025 Proton X70 launches in Malaysia from RM98,800

Proton has officially launched its 2025 Proton X70, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the company’s first SUV. Unveiled today at the Marriott Hotel, this major update to the X70 comes 68 months after its initial debut on December 12, 2018. The 2025 model boasts a refreshed exterior, enhanced interior features, upgraded safety technology, and the introduction of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a first for any Proton vehicle.

Since its introduction, the Proton X70 has been a game-changer in the Malaysian premium SUV segment, with over 100,000 units sold and seven prestigious awards under its belt. The X70’s global counterpart, the Geely Boyue, has also enjoyed immense success, with over 1.8 million units sold in 49 countries worldwide. The 2025 Proton X70 aims to build on this legacy, offering cutting-edge features and exceptional performance to continue its reign as a top choice in the C-segment SUV class.

Speaking at the launch, Proton’s CEO, Dr. Li Chunrong, highlighted the significance of this new model in the context of Proton’s partnership with Geely. “The launch of the 2025 Proton X70 is representative of Proton entering the next phase of our partnership with Geely. With so many milestones over the past 18 months, from the launch of the Proton X90 and S70 to introducing EVs from smart, to opening the R&D centre in China and the brand launch of e.MAS, it’s easy for customers to lose sight of how far the company has come since the launch of our first SUV in 2018,” said Dr. Li. He also emphasized the extensive testing and development that went into the 2025 model, with over 4.2 million kilometers of testing to ensure it meets the highest standards of performance and quality.

Sleek Design and Enhanced Performance

The 2025 Proton X70 features a thoroughly updated exterior that includes a larger front grille with songket-pattern elements, trapezoidal LED headlamps, and a muscular new front bumper and hood design. The rear of the vehicle has also been revamped with a new bumper and diffuser, complemented by 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the 2025 X70 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injection engine, producing 177PS and 255Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a state-of-the-art 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which ensures smooth gear shifts and improved fuel efficiency by 4%.

Revamped Interior and Advanced Technology

The interior of the 2025 Proton X70 has been refined to enhance occupant comfort, featuring a new steering wheel and a premium stone grey color scheme on the Premium and Premium X variants. The upper variants also include ambient LED lighting with 72 color options that sync with the music.

All variants of the X70 now come equipped with a 12.3-inch floating screen, powered by a dual quad-core processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The “Hi Proton” voice recognition feature has been retained, and the Proton Intelligent Air Purifier System (PIAPS) continues to be a standard feature across the range. Notably, the 2025 X70 is the first Proton model to offer both wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a remote engine start feature via the Proton Link app.

Advanced Safety Features

Building on its reputation as a pioneer in active safety systems, the 2025 Proton X70 includes Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) level 2 for the Premium and Premium X variants. This system features 13 active safety systems, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and more. Additionally, all variants come with six SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Distribution, and other essential safety features.
