Fresh off the heels of the launch of the OPPO Reno 2, comes its successor, the OPPO Reno 3. At this point of course, the Reno series is more saturated than my first-ever glass of whiskey.

While the Reno and Reno 2 shared several design similarities, the latest in the series veers away quite sharply and boasts a very different look – but in doing so, now they look like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series.

OPPO Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro launched in China with latest MediaTek Dimensity chipset and 5G support 1

The Reno 3 Pro is a 6.5-inch mammoth with an OLED panel that pushes a 90Hz refresh rate. A punchhole camera can be found on the upper left corner of the screen. The display also features 180Hz touch detection which reduces touch latency. Plus, it supports HDR10+ for a wider gamut of colours

For imaging, it comes with a more familiar quad-lens setup which consists of a 48MP main shooter, an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 2MP black and white lens, and a 13MP telephoto lens that’s capable of 5x hybrid zoom and 2x optical zoom. Looks like OPPO is dialing back on the zooming for the Reno series.

Under the hood, it sports a Snapdragon 765G chipset with 5G support – meaning the Reno 3 Pro is not quite the flagship we expected. It supports up to 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, has a 4,025mAh batter that supports up to 30W VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge.

Moving on to the regular Reno 3, it also sports a 6.5-inch display with the same 90Hz panel. However, for imaging it replaces the black and white camera for a 2MP portrait lens.

It comes packed with the newest MediaTek Dimensity 1000L chipset with 5G support too. The chipset boasts four Cortex-A77 cores and four Cortex-A55 along with a Mali-G77 GPU – making the chipset a rather capable beast. MediaTek calls it the “world’s fastest sub-6GHz 5G” chipset and is expected to reach up to 4.7Gbps performance.

The Reno 3 has the same battery capacity and memory configurations, so the difference between the two devices are in its camera lenses and processors.

The Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro are will be available this 31 December – the former is priced from CNY3,399 (RM2,007) while the latter is priced from CNY3,999 (RM2,361). There’s no word yet one when it’ll arrive in Malaysia, but we reckon a mid-January release date sounds fair.
